Additional Guidelines for Packaging and Shipping

    General Packaging Guidelines

    • Ensure Proper Sealing: All packages should be securely sealed using strong, commercial-grade adhesive tape. Do not rely on packing materials like string, rope, or masking tape.
    • Avoid Overpacking: Ensure that the items are snugly packed, but avoid overpacking as this can cause the box to become brittle or too heavy.
    • Correct Box Size: Use boxes that are appropriately sized for your items. Do not use an excessively large box for small items to prevent shifting and damage during transit.
    • Fragile Items: For fragile items, use extra padding (bubble wrap, foam, packing peanuts) around all surfaces to prevent breakage. Mark these items with “Fragile” stickers to alert handling staff.
    • Sharp or Hazardous Items: For sharp items, ensure they are properly cushioned and clearly marked with appropriate handling instructions. If your shipment contains hazardous materials, ensure it is clearly marked and compliant with international shipping regulations.

    Shipping Label Guidelines

    • Label Positioning: The label should be clearly visible and placed on the largest surface of the package. It should not be obscured by tape, cushioning, or other packaging materials.
    • Additional Instructions: If necessary, include handling instructions such as “Keep Dry,” “This Side Up,” or “Handle With Care.”

    Pallet Guidelines (for Palletized Shipments)

    • Pallet Height: When stacking items on pallets, ensure that the total height does not exceed the maximum allowed height for the specific carrier. Be aware of weight and volume restrictions for specific destinations.
    • Proper Loading: Load heavy items at the bottom and lighter items on top. Make sure the load is stable and evenly distributed.
    • Shrink Wrap: Use shrink wrap to secure the shipment to the pallet and ensure the packaging is protected from moisture and dirt. Do not leave gaps between the boxes and the wrap.
    • Secure Strapping: For extra-large or heavy shipments, use strapping or banding around the entire pallet to add stability and prevent shifting.
    • Pallet Labeling: Include the same labels on the pallet as individual boxes. Ensure that each pallet is marked clearly with the destination and contact details.

    Special Considerations for International Shipments

    • Compliance with International Regulations: Ensure that all shipments comply with the specific import/export regulations of the destination country. This may include providing additional documentation, such as certificates of origin, import permits, or health certifications.
    • Restricted Items: Verify that no restricted or prohibited items are included in the shipment. Check the destination country’s import restrictions to avoid customs issues or delays.
    • Customs Declarations: For international shipments, the commercial invoice should accurately reflect the contents, value, and origin of the goods. Include any required customs declarations and ensure that they are completed properly to avoid delays.

    Handling Returns

    • Returns Label: For goods that may need to be returned, include a return label inside the package with clear instructions on how to process returns.
    • Return Packaging: Ensure that returned goods are packed securely in the same manner as the original shipment to avoid damage during return transit.

    Insurance

    • Shipping Insurance: Consider purchasing shipping insurance for high-value or fragile items. Ensure that the correct insurance value is declared and documented on the commercial invoice.
